Pine County Sheriff Suspends Search for Missing Hunter

The Pine County Sheriff's Office has suspended its search for the deer hunter missing in the Nemadji State Forest.

David Lee Peltier has been missing since Saturday, November 3 after he failed to return to his hunting party's cabin. Authorities said, the group was deer hunting along the Gandy Dancer Trail near Belden.

The Sheriff's Office has worked with over 100 volunteers, DNR conservation officers and forestry division, North Star Search and Rescue K-9 and St. Louis County Search & Rescue.

The weather cleared up enough on Wednesday to allow for a helicopter search of the area.

During his weekly Sheriff's Report on WCMP's morning show, Sheriff Jeff Nelson remarked on difficult decision to scale back efforts.

Sheriff Nelson said, "In talking with the family, they have been great to work with, we decided that yesterday was our last real big commitment of man power in an organized search."

There will be a volunteer search party that will remain in the area at least through Friday, November 9.

Pine County Sheriff said it will continue to follow up on any new information about David Lee Paltier. They also ask that hunters who will be in the area over the next few weeks keep watch and report anything they may find to the Sheriff's Office.
