Chisago City man in custody after barricading himself in business, threatening to set it on fire

A 39-year-old Chisago City man was taken into custody on Tuesday after barricading himself inside a business and threatening to set it on fire.

According to a news release from the Lakes Area Police Department, the Chisago County Communications Center received a report of a person having a mental health crisis at a Liberty Lane business around 11 a.m.

Nearby businesses and residences were evacuated "out of an abundance of caution" due to chemicals stored on-site.

The incident was peacefully resolved by 8:15 p.m., after crisis negotiators worked to resolve the situation with the male party.

The scene was cleared with no further safety concerns, and residents and business owners were able to safely return.

The Chisago County Sheriff's Office, SWAT and CNT team, and Emergency Management; Anoka County SWAT; Minneapolis North Metro HazMat team; St. Paul bomb squad; Chisago City and Lindstrom fire departments; and Lakes Region EMS also responded to the incident.
