Pine City hosted conference opponent Hinckley-Finlayson last Friday night.
The Dragons and Jaguars were playing in front of a packed gym on Friday night, as Pine City looked to stay undefeated in conference play while Hinckley-Finlayson hoped to grab a much needed win.
The game began with Pine City setting a white hot pace. With that pace they dominated the first six and a half minutes of the game with a 23-9 lead. But the Jags hit a couple of big 3's and found themselves right back in the mix. Not long after the Jags cut the lead to 11, Pine City quickly turned things around and built up a 20 point lead. The last 6 minutes of the 1st half were quite impressive, neither team could seemingly miss and both teams seemed just as fresh as they did to start the game. In those final 6 minutes the Jaguars outscored Pine City 22-13 and cut their deficit at halftime down to 11. The Dragons Cole Waxberg hit five 3's in the 1st half with a total of 18 points, Kameron Jusczak had 16 1st half points and he hit three 3's. The Jaguars had two guys come off the bench and make an impact in Jon Buchanan(9 1st half points) and Ashton Hosler(10 1st half points). Buchanan also helped his team by grabbing what felt like every rebound off the glass.
The 2nd half tempo was not the blazing speed we saw in the 1st, but both teams still came out firing. Although the Dragons shots were falling and they started to pull away, Hinckley-Finlayson showed plenty of fight. With under 9 minutes left in the game Pine City had built up a 25 point lead. Both teams had their younger players grab valuable minutes as the game near its end. The Jaguars would outscore the Dragons to end the half once again 14-4. Pine City won 85-60.
With the win Pine City now sits at 15-5 on the season and their streak has extended to 10 wins. They will play against the Bombers in Braham on Tuesday. Hinckley-Finlayson drops to 8-10 on the year and will travel and play Ogilvie on Tuesday.
