Dragons Baseball Busy Week Ends with a Thriller

The Dragons baseball team finished up the week with a comeback victory.

Pine City 16

Mora 2

The Dragons faced off against Mora on Friday night. This game was rescheduled multiple times due to the weather. The weather was again a factor for this game, as the start time was delayed due to rain. Once the game began Pine City showed dominance both on the mound and at the plate. Isaiah Hasz got the start for the Dragons. Hasz pitched all five innings and struck out 8 batters! In nine innings pitched Hasz has 16 strikeouts! Dylan Petersen lead the Dragons with four RBI's. Both Ryan and Nick Plasek had two RBI's.

Pine City 9

Two Harbors 8

In their third game in three days the Dragons hosted Two Harbors on Saturday afternoon. Ryan Plasek was on the mound for this game. Pine City struggled early from both sides. They gave up two runs in the 1st and 2nd innings along with a run in both the 3rd and 4th innings. At the plate the Dragons stranded one runner on base almost every inning before 4th inning. The Dragons were able to score two runs in the 4th inning, and this is when Pine City really started to swing momentum their way. Plasek pitched a scoreless 5th inning, before surrendering two runs in the 6th. At the bottom of the 6th inning the Dragons were down 8-2. Things looked out of reach as they quickly had two outs. But that seemingly gave the Dragons the spark they needed. As they ran five runs across the plate before their third out. Now only trailing by one, the defense needed a quick inning. The defense did just that, with some clutch pitching from Ryan Plasek. Into the bottom of the 7th the Dragons needed just two runs. It started off well, with both Cole Waxberg and Dylan Petersen getting to base on walks. Lukas Struss would hit a slow dribbler down the third baseline and reach base safely. With the bases loaded Daniel Rike stepped into the batters box. Rike hit an identical ball as Struss, he reached safely and drove in a run to tie the game. Mason Charles hit a ball to right field that fell in for a base hit, and brought the winning run across the plate. Plasek pitched the entire game and had three strikeouts. Charles led the team with 4 hits and 3 RBI's in the game.
