Pine City's boys basketball team hosted Chisago Lakes last night.
This was the 2nd time these two team would play each other. The first was in January at Chisago Lakes when Pine City won 67-63. The Wildcats were looking to derail the Dragons on their home court.
Pine City scored first on a free throw then the Wildcats would take their only lead of the entire game 2-1. From that point on Pine City retook the lead and never surrendered it. The Dragons had multiple chances to push their lead to double digits but Chisago Lakes fought hard to make sure that didn't happen. With over 5 minutes left in the 1st half the Dragons finally reach the double digit lead 24-12. The Wildcats made sure that didn't last long, they would end the half only down by 5 32-27.
Not long after the 2nd half began the Dragons would once again hold a double digit lead over Chisago Lakes. But as quickly as they grabbed the double digit lead the Wildcats came back to make it single digits, this went on for the rest of the game. Though at times Chisago Lakes look to steal momentum Pine City never lost focus and stuck to the game plan. Pine City was able to grab 14 steals in the game and draw a whopping 30 fouls! They were also helped by two big 2nd half performances from Cole Waxberg and Dylan Petersen. Waxberg scored all 11 of his points in the 2nd half and Petersen scored 15 of his points in the same half. The Dragons would defeat the Wildcats for the second time this year 76-66.
Pine City improves to 18-7 and will finish the regular season next Tuesday in Esko. As the standings sit right now Pine City is the #10 seed and would play in St Cloud against St Cloud Cathedral in the first round of the playoffs.
