Former Rush City school bus driver sentenced in DWI case

A former Rush City school bus driver was placed on probation for four years and sentenced to 364 days in jail after pleading guilty in August to driving while intoxicated.

Harris resident Kara Ffrench was charged with second-degree DWI after an incident where her bus went off the road on Feb. 15.

According to the criminal complaint, the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a school bus that was stuck on a complainant’s Game Avenue property and struck a basketball pole.

None of the 45 children on the bus at the time were injured.

Ffrench was unable to complete field sobriety testing, and her preliminary breath test measured a 0.199 BAC.

349 days of Ffrench’s sentence are stayed for four years. She will serve 15 days in jail.
