An Isanti man is facing multiple charges after a May 10 incident where he threatened to shoot law enforcement officers.
35-year-old Michael Grinager has been charged with one count each of first- and second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, and a felony-level count of illegal possession of a firearm.
He was also charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement was dispatched to a resident at 287th Circle Northwest in Isanti for a disorderly conduct call.
The reporting party said she was called by her 14-year-old son, who said Grinager came home drunk, kicked his bedroom door open, and hit him.
When authorities arrived on scene, a deputy observed a green laser shining at the officers, and believed a weapon was aimed at them.
While repositioning to take cover, law enforcement heard a male party, identified as Grinager, saying he would "shoot it out with police" and "that this is how he is going to end it."
After calling for SWAT backup, law enforcement officers observed Grinager entering a truck in the driveway and starting the vehicle.
Dispatch made contact with Grinager, who was instructed to walk to the end of the driveway, and he appeared unarmed. Grinager was then detained and later arrested.
Law enforcement secured the scene and located a semi-automatic long rifle with a green laser with an active round in the chamber.
A female party in the residence said she witnessed Grinager aiming the gun at law enforcement, and that he threatened “suicide by cop.”
The 14-year-old son told law enforcement he grabbed the rifle when Grinager put it down, and removed the bullets that were in it when Grinager pointed it at law enforcement.
He hid the rifle and a black semi-automatic pistol (which was also recovered by authorities) from Grinager, who is ineligible to possess firearms due to previous convictions.
Grinager will make his next court appearance on Aug. 21.
