Lady Dragons Fall to Foley

Pine City hosted Foley on Tuesday night.

These two teams played last year in Foley and what a game that was. This time the game happens alittle earlier in the season in Pine City. Foley came in as the #1 team in the section, and Pine City was also in the top 5.

Foley would set the pace early on in this game but Pine City was able to match it. The teams answered each others scoring and it looked like we were in for a barn burner. But turnovers soon became a factor. The Falcons took the lead and turned up the pressure defensively. The Dragons struggled to get by Foley and it lead to some ill advised passes, that turned into takeaways for Foley. The Falcons were able to turn most of steals into points which allowed them to quickly extend their lead. Frustration was building for Pine City, but they continued to play hard and battle. As the 1st half came to a close Foley lead 41-20.

It was a fairly low scoring 2nd half, a total of 40 points were scored, which may seem like alot, but considering how the 1st half went, it was low scoring. Foley's offense didn't need to keep up their high flying pace because their defense kept Pine City off the board. The Dragons offense may not have been able to get much going on the night, but they did cut down on turnovers in the 2nd half and continued to play hard. But the Falcons held onto their lead and came away with a 67-34 victory.

The Falcons move to 3-1 and 2-0 in section play, and stay atop of the section standings. They'll play in Pierz on Thursday.

For Pine City they fall to 3-3 and 0-1 in section play, and will host Esko Thursday.
