Midco acquires Hinckley-based SCI Broadband

Midco finalized the acquisition of Hinckley-based SCI Broadband on Friday, Nov. 19.

The company, founded by Ron Savage in 1984, served nearly 12,000 data customers in central Minnesota.

According to a news release from Midco, the network built by SCI will reach nearly 28,000 passings by the end of 2025.

"It's been an honor to grow SCI alongside so many talented team members, and I'm confident the integration of SCI into Midco will serve our customers well," Savage wrote in the release.

In the release, Midco president and chief operating officer Ben Dold said the internet service provider will continue fiber expansion in new Minnesota markets in 2026.

"This acquisition supports Midco's strategy of fiber expansion, fiber upgrades, and convergence," Dold wrote in the release.

The release states that all SCI team members received a job offer from Midco in the acquisition.

Midco senior vice president of technology Bill Chatwell said the company will be making "significant investments in the network we acquired from SCI" over the next three years.
