Mora Remains Undefeated, Pine City Grabs Rebound Win Over Isle

The Mustangs put their undefeated record on the line against rival Dragons.

Mora 60

Pine City 46

On Tuesday the Dragons hosted the undefeated Mora Mustangs who were ranked #4 in the state. Mora leaped out of the gate and scored first. They built up a small lead, but the Dragons wouldn't stay down for long and eventually tied it at 16. Near the end of the 1st half, both teams got into a bit of foul trouble. This helped the Mustangs grab a 26-23 lead going into halftime. The first 5 minutes of the 2nd half were dominated by Mora. Turnovers helped Mora go on an 11-0 run. Pine City would end the scoring drought after Cole Waxberg hit a pair of three's back to back. At this point Mora lead 37-29. The Mustangs controlled much of the pace for the remainder of the game. Garret Honstrom, was a big reason for that, he pulled down nearly every rebound on both sides of the court. The Mustang offense methodically worked to keep building on their lead. And their defense played complimentary ball as they held the Dragons to only 23 2nd half points. Mora would remain undefeated and move to 8-0.

Pine City 80

Isle 23

After suffering their second loss of the season earlier in the week, the Dragons looked to get back on track against Isle. The Huskies took a quick 5-3 lead over Pine City. But the Dragons quickly took the lead after Kameron Jusczak nailed a 3 pointer. The Dragons hit four 3 point shots in a row and were on a 14-0 run before Isle used a timeout. Pine City's offense seemingly couldn't be stop as it was raining three's in the 1st half, their defense also played outstanding holding Isle to 16 1st half points. At half Pine City lead 53-16. It was much of the same in the 2nd half for Pine City. Their offense was on fire and the defense was suffocating the Huskies. In the last 5 minutes of the game some Dragon JV players would make it onto the court. Charlie Ausmus scored 2 points and Micah Overtoom scored 4, in their time in the game. Mason Charles also played but was unable to score, though he had a couple assists. Pine City ran away with the win and improved to 7-2 on the season. Cole Waxberg lead the team with 25 points Kameron Jusczak scored 11 and Dylan Peterson scored 10.

The Dragons will be in Onamia on Tuesday and Cloquet on Thursday.

Mora will travel to Hinckley-Finlayson on Tuesday and will host Milaca on Thursday.
