New Horizon Thrift Reopens Following Location Change

After being closed so they can move locations, New Horizon Thrift Store in Pine City reopens today, September 14.

The thrift store was originally housed in a small building on Main Street near Voyageur Bottle Shop. After eight years in that location, President and Store Manager Jan Nettleton said they needed more space.

"The truth of the matter is the Lord opened this door," Nettleton told WCMP. "I called the owners of this property and said we were looking to rent. He said they wanted to sell and gave us a good price, so here we are."

Upon purchasing the building behind A&W, staff and volunteers began the massive task of moving a thrift store. It took them two months to renovate the building and move in.

"It's been a long process," Nettleton said.

The new building has set up different rooms and spaces for each section of the store. With the new space and extra room, New Horizons hopes to double its community support.

"We've given over $200,000 back to our community, and we are hoping with this we can give double that," said Nettleton.

Outside of expenses, everything made through the thrift store is given to various community programs including A Place For You, Backpack Program, and Pregnancy Resource Center.

The store will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 until 3:00 p.m.
