Pine County crash results in death of 71-year-old Askov bicyclist

A crash involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle resulted in the death of a 71-year-old Askov woman on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a news release from the Pine County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a reported crash in the 57000 block of Beaver Tail Road in Askov just after 3 p.m.

Deputies located the bicyclist, identified as Diane Frederiksen, in the ditch near the crash site. Life-saving measures were initiated by first responders, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver was identified as 39-year-old Askov resident Nicole Nelson. The release states that she remained on scene and cooperated with law enforcement.

Preliminary investigation indicates she was not impaired at the time of the crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol conducted a reconstruction of the crash, which remains under investigation.

The Sandstone Fire Department and Essentia Ambulance service also assisted at the scene.
