Dozens gathered in Pine City on January 19 for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new multi-use building at the Hilltop Recreation Area.
The ceremony began with the reading of a proclamation by acting Mayor Steve Ovick, who acknowledged the contributions and volunteer work done in the construction of the building.
The ribbon itself was cut by Jonah Sauter, President of the Hilltop Improvement Committee.
"Our goal is just to do something nice for this community," Sauter told WCMP. "There are kids that are just begging for something like this, and we just want to provide it."
The improvement project will start phase three of four in the spring. They are looking to concrete the main rink, install new boards, line the rink for pickleball and basketball courts, and install a canopy.
More information on the project is available on the City of Pine City website.
Back in August of 2020, we talked to Parks and Recreation Director Stacy O'Rourke and Pine City Youth Hockey President Marco Schisano about the project. You can listen to a more in-depth conversation on the improvement project below.
