Search continues for missing Hinckley woman; cell phone ping registered near Superior on Aug. 6

Pine County Sheriff Jeff Nelson shared an update on the ongoing search for a missing 85-year-old Hinckley woman on Thursday.

The sheriff's office previously confirmed that Juanita Rosa was last seen in the Askov area on Aug. 4, the day she was reported as missing.

Investigators have since reported that a ping from a cell phone known to be in Rosa’s possession was registered in the area of Superior, Wisconsin, on Aug 6.

"There was a ping, albeit a very short ping, up in the Superior, Wisconsin, area, back on the 6th," Nelson said. "So a couple days after she was reported missing, there was a digital, if you will, sighting."

Rosa is described as five-foot-two and weighing 100 pounds, with long white hair and blue eyes.

Her vehicle is a pearl white 2011 Buick Lacrosse, with a Minnesota license plate reading

NBS-800.

Nelson added that the vehicle expands the range of the search for Rosa.

"The area is fairly expansive that she could be in," Nelson explained. "When you're in a vehicle that's mobile and able to get around, it opens up a huge area to search."

Despite the cell phone ping being about two weeks removed, Nelson said it's the last information authorities have about Rosa's potential whereabouts.

Anyone with information about Rosa is encouraged to contact the Pine County Sheriff's Office.
