Rush City Correctional Facility Releases July Numbers
The Minnesota Correctional Facility in Rush City has released its numbers as of the end of July.
The facility, which currently houses 1,009 adult offenders, has an average age of 34 years old for offenders, with the youngest at 18, and the oldest at 82.
For offenders at that facility the average length of sentence excluding life sentences is 108 months, or 9 years, with 79 prisoners serving a life sentence.
Educationally, 81% of inmates graduated with at least a high school degree, and most of inmates being held at the correctional facility are from the 7 county metro area.
Pine Tech and Community College Holds Informational Day
Pine Technical and Community College is hosting an informational Explore IT and Business day.
Tomorrow from 2-3 pm at the college there will be an informational seminar on how to prepare for a career in those fields or how to transfer to a 4 year school after going there.
Pine’s IT program has had millions of dollars recently invested in it, and features instructors who are experts in their fields.

Hinckley-Finlayson Schools Qualify for Preschool Funding
After a large number of Minnesota schools applied for preschool funding, just one local school will be receiving it.
Pine City, North Branch, and Braham amongst other districts all applied to benefit from a grant at the state level to fund preschool programs.
While those did not end up getting the funding due to lack of resources, the Hinckley-Finlayson School District did.
With the means to do so, the Hinckley-Finlayson school district can now move forward with its pre-k programs.

Dementia Informational Meeting
An informational meeting surrounding dementia and how community members can reach out to those suffering is coming up.
The first event with the Dementia Friends Champion training is August 30th from 1-3 pm.
The goal of the Dementia Friends Information Session is to help community members understand dementia and the small things they can do to make a difference for people living with dementia.
