Suicidal man taken into custody after leading area law enforcement on pursuit

A suicidal man was taken into custody after leading area law enforcement on a pursuit on Monday evening.

According to a press release, the Burnett County Sheriff's Office notified the Pine County Sheriff's Office that a suicidal missing person was entering Pine County via Highway 70 around 5:45.

When authorities located the vehicle, it stopped in the middle of the road. The responding deputy was prompted to exit the vehicle and verbally engage the driver.

The driver fled after stating "shoot me and I will shoot."

A pursuit ensued for about 8 miles before it was terminated. The Kanabec County Sheriff's Office was alerted and later located and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The driver again fled and drove into a field approach.

A drone was deployed over the suspect's vehicle and confirmed the presence of a firearm.

Pine County SWAT was requested and arrived with an armored vehicle to attempt communication with the suspect.

After several attempts, the suspect exited the vehicle voluntarily and was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

It was later determined that the firearms in his vehicle were BB guns.
