Next Five Years of Pine County Road Plans Released

A recently rolled out plan created by Pine County features the resurfacing of nearly a quarter of the roads in the county.

The plan includes $31 million in road improvements in the next five years, beginning in 2018.

24% of the paved road system will be resurfaced, with 103 miles in total being redone.

In addition to those enhancements, 10 bridges will be replaced, and also a railroad crossing.

Pine County Engineer and Public Works Director Mark Lebrun presented this plan last week.

Purple Lakes in Burnett County Questioned

Some in Burnett County have questioned why certain lakes appear to have a purple color to them.

The culprit behind the purple tint is a floating water plant called Purple Bladderwort.

The plant grows in floating bunches, much like Eurasian Milfoil, and often is mistaken for that invasive species. The Bladderwort is native.

The plants are actually meat-eaters, but consume nothing but small insects.
