Repeat Drug Offender Receives Prison Sentence

HULBERT RECEIVES 107 MONTHS IN PRISON

According to the Pine County Attorney's Office Facebook Page, on Tuesday, January 3rd, Johnny Lee Hulbert Jr., 37, was sentenced to 107 months in prison for a felony 1st degree controlled substance crime (Minnesota's most serious drug felony). Hulbert has 16 prior felony convictions going back to 2001. The sentence is a Minnesota Guidelines Sentence. The Pine County Attorney's Office refused to plead the charge down to a lesser crime because of Hulbert's history.

On October 23, 2017, at 3:36 a.m., Pine County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the Grand Casino Hinckley after casino security reported that Hulbert was on the property and had an active warrant. The deputies found Hulbert playing at a slot machine and told him he was under arrest. Hulbert took off his sweatshirt and threw it in front of the slot machines. A deputy picked up the sweatshirt and a plastic bag fell out of it. The bag contained over 84 grams in methamphetamine (approximate street value of $7,000 to $8,500).

The case was litigated by Assistant County Attorney Chris Nippoldt. We're grateful to the Pine County Sheriff's Office and the Grand Casino Hinckley in helping us get this dangerous repeat offender off the streets.
