One of the most prominent political leaders for central and northern Minnesota announced he won’t be running for re-election this fall.
Representative Rick Nolan announced late Friday that he won’t be vying for the 8th district congressional seat again this year. Nolan first served in congress from 1974 through 1980, when he announced his retirement.
In a surprise move, Nolan returned decades later for the 2012 election, where he won the seat. Nolan then went on to win the district two more times, including in 2016, despite just a 2,000 vote win.
The 74-year-old said he’ll be substituting the campaign trail for camping and spending time with his grandkids.
