Hinckley-Finlayson, East Central Could Lose Pre-K Funding

Some locals schools are in danger of losing pre-kindergarten funding according to state lawmakers.

Minnesota State senator Tony Lourey representing Pine, Carlton, and Kanabec counties, is in support of Governor Dayton’s request to renew funding.

“Investing in our littlest Minnesotans is the best investment we make collectively as a society,” said Sen. Lourey. “There has been no bigger champion at the State Capitol for preschool-aged children than Governor Dayton. I thank the governor for his leadership and stand with him in support of vital pre-K dollars here in my district and throughout our state.”

If the current legislature stands still, significant funding for both the Hinckley-Finlayson and East Central School Districts would run out. In last year’s legislative session East Central received roughly $190k and Hinckley-Finlayson was sent $191k.

72 pre-K students were enrolled in the program between the two districts last year, both of which were supported through state funds.
