Rush City Ambassador Raises Money to Create Cancer Research Grant

Miss Rush City Ambassador Jillian Cicero is taking part in a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year program.

Student of the Year is a seven-week philanthropic leadership development program during which students raise funds for LLS.

Cicero's goal is to raise $50,000 in order for LLS to establish a research grant after her mother, Sharon Westman, who passed away from Leukemia in 2012 when she was just 10.

Cicero chose the program because of the benefits her mother received from research done by the organization. She now wants to give back so others can benefit too.

"I would love to see my mom's giving and generous spirit live on through a grant that would benefit families going through experiences similar to mine," she said.

Cicero has until February 26 to raise the $50,000.
