The Rush City girls basketball team already had celebrated their third straight Great River Conference championship when they headed to Ogilvie on Tuesday night. But it was another milestone that was knocked down for the Tigers, 50 straight conference wins. That is a win streak that dates back to January 22nd, 2016 when the Tigers lost to Pine City 48-41. Since that point it has been nothing but conference domination for the Tigers.
The 2016-2017 Tigers team went a perfect 25-0 before losing in the section championship game to Sauk Centre. Last year, Rush City only lost twice and both losses came to St. Cloud Cathedral. This year, Rush City is currently 18-1 with just three games left. They have one more conference game to wrap up another perfect conference season and two big section games. They end the year against St. Cloud Cathedral in a big confidence building game if they can beat the Crusaders heading into the playoffs.
The Section 6AA playoffs are shaping up to be another great tournament with familiar faces (Sauk Centre and Rush City) currently sitting on top of the QRF standings. St. Cloud Cathedral, Albany, Foley, and Pine City are all teams that will have a chance to make a trip to the State Tournament when we reach playoff time.
With seven seniors on this years team, including players Shawna Mell, Jamie Guptill, and Elena Herberg, this Rush City team believes this is their year to get over the top and make it to the State Tournament.
