One Killed, One Seriously Injured in Hwy. 23 Crash


One driver has been killed, and one has been injured following a head-on collision on Highway 23.

According to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2008 Chevy Impala was waiting to make a left turn on the highway when a Lexus 300 came up behind the Impala, swerving into the eastbound lane hitting a third vehicle, a 2010 Impala head-on just before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.

The crash caused occurred just west of I-35 and caused authorities to shut down a section of the highway for a number of hours in order to investigate the crash.

63-year-old Margret Renee Hatch of Mora, Minnesota was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Lexus 300, 32-year-old Joseph Timothy Silker was taken St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth for life-threatening injuries.
