The Pine County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an increase counterfeit bills used in the area.
During his Thursday Sheriff’s Report, Sheriff Jeff Nelson told residents, especially those who regularly handle money, to be specifically wary of $20 bills.
"The stuff out there that I have seen lately does seem to be a kind of photocopy, print off, or computer copy. If you just glance at it, it looks good. But if you pay any attention to it at all, it's fairly obvious that it's counterfeit," said Sheriff Nelson.
He went onto warn that as we approach garage sale season, you should be extra careful since you will not be reimbursed for receiving fake currency.
