Dragons Tennis Succeeds in Sub-Section Individual tournament


The Pine City girls tennis team traveled to Sartell yesterday to compete in the sub-section individual tournament. Competing for the Dragons were Lydia Adams, Ella Sell, Maddie Berglund, Katie Miller, Allison Unverzagt, and Sophie Lahti.

Ella Sell placed 4th, Lydia Adams placed 2nd and the doubles team of Maddie Berglund/Katie Miller took 1st! They will advance to the individual section tournament next Tuesday. The doubles team of Allison Unverzagt/Sophie Lahti lost in the first round ending their season. Head coach Kristin Unverzagt said “Overall, it was a good day the girls played well, they had close matches and played both smart and aggressive, even though some of the scores don’t show how close the points were.”

Ella Sell won over Emma Stokman (Crobsy-Ironton) 6-1, 6-1

Ella Sell lost to Megan Muller (Pequot Lakes) 0-6, 0-6

Ella Sell lost to Courtney Boller (Pequot Lakes) 3-6, 4-6

Lydia Adams won over Bella Severson (Crosby Ironton) 6-0, 6-0

Lydia Adams won over Courtney Boller (Pequot Lakes) 6-2, 6-3

Lydia Adams lost to Megan Muller (Pequot Lakes) 5-7, 6-4, 4-6

Maddie Berglund/Katie Miller won over Reynolds/Folkema (Mora) 6-1, 6-0

Berglund/Miller won over Decent/Spalj (Crosby Ironton) 7-5, 4-6, 6-3

Berglund/Miller won over Saxerud/Fyler (Pequot Lakes) 6-3, 6-2

Unverzagt/Lahti lost in the first round to Krueger/Dion (Mora) 3-6, 2-6

The Pine City tennis team heads back to Sartell for their team section semi-final match against Virginia.
