Alcohol believed to be factor in fatal Burnett County UTV crash

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a fatal Burnett County UTV crash on Saturday night.

According to the Burnett County Sheriff's Office, dispatch was notified about a rollover crash on Shrider Road in Lafollette Township around 11:45 p.m.

First responders located two occupants trapped under the UTV. The male driver was not wearing a seatbelt, and the female passenger was.

52-year-old Spooner resident Jennifer Kopinski was pronounced deceased at the scene after lifesaving measures were attempted.

56-year-old Richard Thone, also of Spooner, was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

Thone is currently in custody for negligent manslaughter.

The crash is under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
