Athey Hits the Cycle in Mora Victory

Mora opened up the week of play with an intriguing match up.

Mora 7

Zimmerman 6

Peyton Oslin got the start for the Mustangs. Things didn't start the way Mora would've liked. Zimmerman scored a run early, then Pressly Haas would launch the ball over the fence for a two run homer. The Thunder lead 4-0 going into the 4th inning, after adding a run in the 3rd. Mora's bats started to heat up in the bottom of the 4th, as the cut the lead in half before moving on to the 5th inning. Oslin would pitch a second scoreless inning, which put her team in position to build on the momentum they gained in the previous inning. Two batters were quickly put away by the Thunder, while Mora still had one runner on base. Anna Athey stepped up to the plate and smashed a home run, tying the game at four going into the 6th inning. Things seemed to heavily favor Mora, but Zimmerman wouldn't hang their heads. The Thunder scored two runs to retake the lead, and wouldn't allow Mora to score a run in the 6th inning. In the 7th inning the Thunder looked to add some insurance runs. They would load the bases with one out, applying all of the pressure on Mora. Peyton Oslin kept her composure and would help her team grab the final two outs, without surrendering a run. Mora needed at least two runs to extend the game but three for the win. The Mustangs would score a run while moving other runners to 2nd and 3rd base. Anna Athey would step into the batters box. To this point of the game she had a single, triple and a home run. She needed a base hit for the win but a double for the cycle. She and the Zimmerman pitcher Olene would battle it out at the plate. With a 2-2 count Athey swung and put the ball into the outfield. She would reach 2nd, but more importantly the two runs came across the plate. Athey hit the cycle along with 4 RBI's and the Mustangs won over a tough Zimmerman team. Oslin would pitch the complete game and strike out three batters.

Mora will travel to Little Falls on Thursday and host MLWR on Friday.
