Section 5A
1-Hinckley-Finlayson 14-4 (Section 5A 8-0) (10-1 1st-Great River) 71.1 10th
Hinckley-Finlayson starts our postseason preview. The Jaguars went 14-4 this season including a perfect section record, which earns them the first seed in Section 5A. Hinckley-Finlayson only lost one game in conference play and earned the Great River Conference title. The Jaguars come into the playoffs hot, winning 8 of their last 9 games. Ogilvie will travel to Hinckley for the Jags first playoff game. Hinckley-Finlayson took down Ogilvie during the regular season.
2-Braham 13-3 (Section 5A 8-2) (12-2 2nd-Great River) 61.8 22nd
Braham had quite the year as well, going 13-3. The Bombers went 8-2 in Section 5A play earning them the second seed. Braham not only earned the second spot in the section but also the Great River conference going 12-2 with the only losses coming to Hinckley-Finlayson. The Bombers may have lost their last game of the regular season, but they went on a 7-game win streak right before that loss. The Bombers beat East Central 6-1 to open the playoffs. The Bombers swept the Eagles in both of their regular season matchups winning 11-1 and 13-0. Braham will host Onamia tonight.
7-East Central 2-10 (Section 5A 1-7) (1-10 8th Great River) 25.3 91st
East Central struggled during the regular season finishing with a record of 2-10. The Eagles did win one of their last three games of the season winning 4-0 over Isle. East Central fell to the Bombers ending their season.
Section 7AA
6-Pine City 12-5 (Section 7AA 7-2) (7-3 3rd-Great River) 63.3 54th
Pine City enters the Section 7AA playoffs on fire after ending their regular season with 5 straight wins. The Dragons went 12-5 in the regular season earning them the most wins in a season that they’ve had in recent history. They opened their playoff schedule with a win against Mora in Nashwauk 6-1. When the Dragons and Mustangs met earlier this season, Pine City came away with a 16-2 victory. The Dragons would fall in the second game of the day to Virginia 12-1. Pine City will now play Greenway at UMD tomorrow.
11-Mora 6-13 (Section 7AA 3-4) (3-9 7th-Granite Ridge) 46.7 83rd
After a rough start to the season, the Mustangs turned their season around going 6-6 since May 6th. Mora comes into the playoffs winning three of their last five games. The Mustangs fell to Pine City 6-1, ending their playoff hopes.
16- Rush City 4-12 (Section 7AA 0-5) (4-8 6th-Great River) 28.9 122nd
Rush City ended their regular season last week going 4-12. Their wins came against conference opponents earning them the 6th spot in the conference. The Tigers may not have had the regular season that they would’ve liked this year, but every team’s record is set to 0-0 in the playoffs. Rush City lost to a tough Esko team 7-0.
Section 7AAA
2-North Branch 13-7 (Section 7AAA 7-2) (Mississippi 8 7-7) 103.8 14th
The Vikings ended the regular season with a record of 13-7 including a tremendous 7-2 record within the conference. During the season, North Branch had two different four game win streaks. North Branch picked up a slim 1-0 victory over Duluth Denfeld during the regular season, but the Hunters had the Vikings number this time. North Branch fell 14-2, and will now host Cloquet on Thursday.
Section 7AAAA
8-Cambridge-Isanti 5-15 (Section 7AAAA 0-2) (Mississippi 8 4-10) 60.8 61st
Cambridge-Isanti will start their playoffs today as they will travel to Andover to face off against the first seeded Huskies at 4:30. The Bluejackets come into the postseason hot, winning two of their last four games.
