The Section 6A boys tennis playoffs are set to begin tomorrow afternoon. Here's a look at where the local teams were seeded and who'll they'll play.
#1 Foley
The Falcons are coming off a dominate 2021 campaign were they came up short of reaching state losing to Mound Westonka in the Section semi final last year. Foley might be the favorite out of this section to make it to state. They will host Brooklyn Center in the 1st round tomorrow.
#4 Pine City
The Dragons, like every other team in Minnesota, didn't get as many competitions completed as they would've hoped for. And because of that it seems like we didn't get to see them at their full potential. They played against each section opponent except Brooklyn Center. They were within one point of defeating the top three seeds, Foley, Totino Grace and Fridley. I look for Pine City to be the dark horse of this section and surprise a lot of teams. They will host Mora tomorrow afternoon.
#5 Mora
Compared to last years record this team has improved finishing the year at .500, 8-8. And the improvement has shown, in 5 of their 8 wins they scored 5 or more points. They were never shut out and scored one point only twice in their losses. The Mustangs could pull of an upset if their opponent relaxes at all.
#7 North Branch
The Vikings won one match all of last year. But this year, even in the shortened season, they doubled that with two wins. They are a team that could be easily over looked but don't be surprised if they were to catch that team flat footed and steal one. North Branch will be on the road for round one and face a tough Totino Grace team tomorrow.
Four teams will advance from this section to the semi finals on Tuesday in Pine City.
