Burnett County ADA Charged for Secretly Recording Sexual Encounters

The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced last Friday that the Assistant District Attorney for Burnett County Daniel Steffen is facing three charges of representations depicting nudity.

According to the criminal complaint, Steffan allegedly filmed himself engaging in sexual activity with two separate victims at his Polk county home without the victim's knowledge. The complaint went onto say that investigators discovered the videos on an iPad at Steffen's resident following a search warrant.

The investigation began in early 2020 after the Wis. DOJ received information that Steffen allegedly had sexual relations with one of the victims in exchange for leniency in criminal cases she had pending in Burnett County.

Each charge is a Class I Felony, punishable by a fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment of not more than 3 years and 6 months.

Steffen has been summoned to appear at an initial court appearance on February 15, 2021, at 2:00 p.m.
