The Lady Dragons were at St. Cloud State yesterday for the 2nd round of the Section playoffs.
Pine City played Melrose in the quarterfinals. Pine City got out to an early lead. The game was being played at drag race speed. Both teams flying up and down the court taking shots at will. Nearing the end of the 1st half the Dragons lead started to diminish, and their shots started not to fall. Pine City didn’t make a basket in the last 3 minutes of the half. Melrose capitalized and mounted a comeback to take the lead going into halftime. The Dragons easily found the net to begin the 2nd half and scored 5 points in 30 seconds. Before long the Dragons regained the lead and never looked back. Ellie Hasz was unstoppable, only missing one of her shots in the entire 2nd half. The Dragons defense was just as good only allowing 19 points in the final half. The Dragons came away with the victory 63-47. Ellie Hasz lead the team with 20 points, Sophie Lahti scored 15 and Lily Wilson had 14.
The Dragons advance to the semi final round at St. Johns University on Wednesday. They will have a rematch of their final regular season game, as they will play Sauk Centre. That game will tip off at 730pm.
