Dragons Cruise to Victory at Home
The Pine City boys basketball team hosted Mille Lacs Tuesday night.
The Dragons got off to a hot start against the Raiders, scoring 16 points in the first couple of minutes. Things quickly slowed down as Mille Lacs was able to find some adjustments on the fly. Unfortunately for the Raiders while they slowed the Dragons down, they were unable to get many baskets to fall. Eventually, Pine City found the pace with which they started the game and grew their lead before half. They would go into half leading 43-10.
The Dragons started the 2nd half where they left off in the first. Pine City was able to keep growing their lead but also took plenty of time off the clock. Although their defense struggled to make enough stops, the Raiders offense caught a little bit of a rhythm in the 2nd half. Though the game was out of reach it's certainly something they can look at for success moving forward. Soon the Dragon starters were able to rest for the remainder of the game and the backups made their way onto the court for some valuable varsity minutes. The backups made the most of their time on the court playing smart basketball while also forcing a few turnovers. They were able to close out the 76-29 victory.
The win brings the Dragons one game under .500 at 5-6, but they move to 3-1 in the conference. They will host another conference opponent Thursday in Hinckley-Finlayson.
Mille Lacs falls to 0-10 on the season, but will have another opportunity to grab their first win on Friday against Rush City.
