The Pine City Area Dragons defeated Mora/Milaca on Saturday night in the Section 5A playoffs by a score of 8-3.
The Dragons came on to the ice flying in the first period grabbing three goals in the first three minutes of play to give themselves an early advantage over the Mustangs. Mora/Milaca fought themselves back into the game about five minutes later scoring a pair of quick goals on their own to make it tight 3-2. Pine City rebounded quickly however and added three more goals before the first period came to an end. The Dragons ended the high-flying first period with a 6-2 lead that they would use to coast to victory the rest of the game.
Pine City improved to 12-13-1 on the season and advance to the quarterfinals of the Section 5A playoffs where they will travel to Monticello to take on the Moose. Monticello is 15-9-1 this season and and 9-2 in section play. They earned the #2 seed in the section behind #1 Little Falls. Pine City lost both matchups to Monticello this season. An early season matchup they fell 4-3 in overtime and then lost 4-0 on February 2nd.
