Dragons Defeat Rival Mora in Season Opener

The Dragons volleyball team kicked off the regular season on Monday night.

Pine City welcomed in rival Mora and both teams looked to start the season off on the right foot.

Pine City scored first in the opening set and controlled most of the set and walked away with a quick 25-15 set win. Set 2 would prove to be different. Pine City scored first again, but Mora didn't let their lead become to large. Mora kept themselves within a couple of point the entire set never letting the Dragons be comfortable. Eventually Pine City did pull away just enough claiming set 2 25-21, taking a 2-0 match lead.

The 3rd set saw the Dragons score first yet again, and they certainly felt that would prove to be another set win. The Mustangs had other plans, as they got better with each set. Pine city had a 2 point lead which quickly vanished as Mora tied the game and soon after took their first lead of the entire match. A lead in which they would not surrender. The Dragons would tie the set multiple times but could never overtake the lead. Mora stayed strong and continued to take their lead deep into set 3. As the match played on the Dragons would find a rhythm and would retake the lead for the first time since the beginning of the set. After taking the lead, they imposed their will on Mora and took the set 25-17 and win 3-0.

Pine City will play their only other game of the week on Thursday in Milaca.

Mora will have two more games, one on Tuesday against St. Cloud Cathedral, and another game on Thursday against Hermantown. Mora will be in the comforts of their own court for both games.
