Dragons Fall to Tough Aitkin Team on the Road

The Dragons football team was in Aitkin Friday night.

After a tough home opener loss last week Pine City looked to turn things around against the Gobblers. But Aitkin had other plans.

The Dragons struggled to put a drive together on offense. They had three turnovers that lead to three touchdowns for the Gobblers. Pine City didn't cross mid field until late in the first half when it looked like the offense was finally clicking. But by that time they were already down 50-0 as halftime approached. The Dragons had less than 50 yards of offense in the first half and hoped for any momentum in the 2nd half.

As the 3rd quarter began Aitkin still showed their dominance and scored again, and soon brought in replacements. The Dragons could've easily hung their heads and completely given up, but that's not in their DNA, they continued to fight. Though the game was out of reach Pine City seemingly found some things to work with in the future. Logan Kolecki scored twice in the 2nd half and gained nearly 90 yards rushing in the game. Freshman Tucker Johnsen found the endzone in the 4th quarter scoring his varsity touchdown. As the game rolled along Aitkin was still able to score more points but Pine City wasn't done yet. Ayden Ostenson was able to make his way into the endzone from 40 yards out. Pine City may have found some spark with their offense late that they can hopefully carry throughout the rest of the season. Though they scored quite a bit in the 2nd half it wasn't enough as Aitkin won 73-30.

Pine City falls to 0-2 on the year and will host Hibbing on Friday for the Howard bowl.
