Dragons Start Season with Three Conference Victories

It was the season opener for both teams in Onamia. With no fans in the stands in Onamia, the game had a different feel at least at the start. "The kids and the coaches were so happy to be playing basketball again." The Dragons jumped out to a big lead in the first half. "We really shared the ball well." The kids were able to make the extra pass to go from a good shot to a great shot." The Dragons went into halftime with a 48-19 lead and cruised to victory in the second half. All 8 varsity players were big contributors to the victory. Ellie Hasz had 28 points including six 3-pointers on eight attempts. She also contributed 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Sophie Lahti had a very nice floor game with 16 points, 8 assists, 6 steals and 6 rebounds. Kloey Lind was also in double figures with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal. Meredith Kolling had 7 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Karly Jusczak scored 7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Maddie Berglund had 6 points on two 3-pointers, Carissa Nascene had 3 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Ella Sell had 3 points and 2 steals. "It was a nice way to start the season." There was little time to enjoy the win however as the Dragons would have their 2nd game in as many days the following night against Isle at home.

It was the second conference victory in as many nights for the Dragons. "We were able to get everyone, except Meredith Kolling, who is battling a minor leg injury, over 20 minutes of playing time and were able to work on fine tuning some of the little things that are so important throughout the season." Seven Dragons scored double figure points in the game. Sophie Lahti had 24 points, 9 rebounds, 8 steals and 5 assists. Ellie Hasz had 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Kloey Lind had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists. Maddie Berglund had 14 points including four 3-pointers, 6 assists and 2 steals. Karly Jusczak had 12 points and 8 rebounds. Carissa Nascene had 10 points, 5 steals and 3 assists. Ella Sell had 10 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. "It was a good first week of competition." "We are striving to get better everyday." "We have a great group of kids in our program who want to work and get better." "We are definitely excited about representing Pine City once again this season."
