The Eagles girls basketball team hosted the Johnnies last night for the Section 5A playoff play in game.

On the first night of the section playoffs East Central got the privilege of playing in front of their home crowd, cheerleaders and pep band. The Eagles felt the support of the crowd as they jumped out to an early lead over St John's Prep. Both teams were flying up and down the court and it seemed like we were in for a scoring frenzy. But both defenses started to get more pressure on the shooters. East Central was still able to grow their lead though the scoring had hit a bit of a lull. The Eagles held a 25-16 lead near the end of the 1st half and had a couple opportunities to extend that to double digits. But the Johnnies forced a couple of turnovers and scored twice before half making the Eagle lead 25-20. The Eagles lead was helped in big part to Carly Watrin and Aly Huntington who each hit two three's in the 1st half.

The 2nd half started with a bang much like the 1st half, both teams came out firing on all cylinders. But once again the defenses made adjustments on the fly and slowed the game down. The Johnnies seemed to be on the comeback trail as the brought themselves within a couple of the Eagles lead. East Central was able to end their scoring drought and pull away from St John's Prep once again, this time for good. The Eagles went on to win 43-35 over the Johnnies. The Eagles advance and will play the Bombers on Thursday in Braham at 7pm. You can catch that game on 100.9FM and online at wcmpradio.com audio only.
