Jaguars Win Over Rush City in Overtime

The Hinckley-Finlayson boys basketball team hosted Rush City on Friday night.

These two teams took to the court for a Great River Conference battle. Both teams played a fast paced first half. The Jaguars scored first and never let their early lead slip. But the Tigers kept playing hard and held the game close all throughout the first half. The Jaguars went into the half with a 33-26 lead. Coming out of the half, both teams kept playing with the same pace as they did in the first. Both teams came out firing and the defenses were just as good. Nearing the end of the 2nd half, the Jaguars held a 57-51 lead. The Tigers came back to tie it up with under a minute left. With 3 seconds left the Jaguars came out of a timeout with one last chance to take the lead. But the final shot was blocked by the Tigers, sending the game into overtime. Rush City scored the first points in overtime. Hinckley-Finlayson regained the lead and built on it making it 65-61 with under a minute left. Rush City never gave in as they brought themselves within two. A foul by the Tigers sent the Jaguars to the foul with 1 second left. Leviticus Kroschel seemily missed the 1 and 1 shot on purpose in order to drain the clock and give his team a victory, 65-63.

The Jaguars improve to 5-9 with the win, and will travel to play Onamia on Tuesday night. Rush City falls to 4-8, and will host Ogilvie on Tuesday night.
