Head Coach of the Girls Dragon Tennis Team Kristen Unverzagt gives us a update on how their quad match went on Monday!
What a day we had yesterday!
After waiting out multiple rain delays and drying the courts, we were able to get two out of the three matches in but the last match finished in the dark! We split for the day with a 4-3 win over Mounds Park Academy and a 3-4 loss to Litchfield. From last Friday's matches to yesterday's, we continue to improve and modify our line up to get stronger each time we step on the court. We tried different line up combinations from Friday and it is great to see players step up and adapt with new doubles partners or singles.
In Monday's matches Brooke Boland and Alana Linnell have remained a steady force at our top two singles spots. While Vivian Lahti and Kate Unverzagt were a strong pair at one doubles. For our 3rd and 4th singles and 2nd and 3rd doubles, we continue to mix up our pairings to find new combinations and utilize our strengths to help match our opponents. Stepping up at third singles and two doubles was Lily Rootkie. Her versatility will be key to the team's success this season. Mallory Clepper and Breckly Nicoll also continue to be a force in doubles whether they play together or apart. Alayna Fauskee, Kendall Steele, Alyssa Miller, and Myra Roubinek have had opportunities to bounce between singles and doubles as we look for the best combinations and match ups for our opponents. Chloe Goad also stepped up to push our team and play strong exhibition doubles.
We are going to rely on all players in each match as we have some more strong teams coming in the upcoming weeks. We need to continue to work hard and improve each time we step on the court.
We are so proud of the team for their grit. We arrived at the courts at 9 AM and did not leave until after 9 PM! It was a long day but they did not give in and came to work. Effort, work, and desire is what is going to help this team reach their goals.
