The Pine City girls co-op hockey team hosted Prairie Centre on Tuesday night.
The Dragons came out firing in the first period. They put 34 shots on net while the Blue Devils only managed 4. Though it was lopsided in shots the score was tied at 1 after the 1st period. The Blue Devils managed to score first, but less than 2 minutes after that Arissa Rydberg answered with her first goal of the season. The second period began and the Dragons had already put multiple shots on net within the 1st minute. Not long after they would get on the board again with a goal from Lexa Valvoda, putting them up 2-1. Pine City kept the pressure on the Blue Devils and the puck rarely left the Prairie Centre zone. Only three minutes after the Valvoda goal Abby Aagaard was able to bury one in the back of the net to give her team a 3-1 cushion. Though the puck possession heavily favored Pine City, the Blue Devils still created some opportunities of their own, but couldn't capitalize due to the speed of Pine City.
Barely two minutes into the final period Rhiannon Ashworth was able to score and extend the Dragon lead 4-1. Aagaard would grab another goal on the evening to make it a 5-1 score. It seemed as if the Dragons might blow the doors off, but the Blue Devils managed to battle and net a goal to pull back within three. But Rydberg would soon add her second goal of the night to once again give Pine City a four point lead and eventually the win 6-2.
The Dragons threw 86 shots on net! While Sophia Olson faced only 12.
Pine City moves to 1-0 on the young season and will be in action again on Friday in Wisconsin against Somerset.
