North Branch Woman Sentenced in Animal Abuse Case

The 61-year-old North Branch woman who was convicted of animal mistreatment in October has been sentenced.


Carmen Burth was found guilty of mistreating an animal by deprivation of necessary food, water, or shelter after 11 horses were seized from her property in 2019.


She was sentenced in a Chisago County court on Monday to 90 days of confinement that was stayed for one year and a year of probation.


Burth’s probation includes cooperating with third-party welfare checks of the animals on her property and not housing, adopting, or fostering any additional animals.
