One in Custody Following Monday Stand Off with Law Enforcement in Hinckley

PRESS RELEASE:


On 01/16/2023, the Pine County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2000 block of Old Hwy 61 S in Hinckley for a domestic. The victim informed our 911 communication center that the suspect stated he was going to get into a standoff with law enforcement. Deputies were able to locate the victim and bring that person to safety. Deputies were advised of the domestic at the residence and the suspect was armed and was threatening harm to himself and law enforcement.


Additional resources were called which included Pine County SWAT, Pine County Investigations, Pine County Negotiations Team, Mille Lacs Tribal Police, East Central Drug and Violent Offender Task Force, Chisago County SWAT, and St. Louis County SWAT. Communications were established with the suspect, who was not cooperating with law enforcement. After several hours, the suspect was taken into custody with no injury to law enforcement or the suspect.


Arthur Gustafson, Hinckley, was booked at the Pine County Jail for Felony Domestic Assault.


Thank you to the Hinckley Fire Department for their work in blocking and rerouting traffic which allowed law enforcement to focus on this situation. Also, thank you to Essentia Ambulance for being on standby during this incident.
