From the Pine County Sheriff’s Office:
On 03/03/2022 at 1854 hours, the Pine County Sheriff’s office responded to a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle on Pokegama Lake Road near Grasston. When deputies arrived, bystanders were administering CPR to the victim. Deputies continued lifesaving measures, but the male was later pronounced deceased.
During the investigation, it was learned that the victim’s dog was hit by a car moments earlier. While he was trying to remove the dog from the roadway, he was struck by a secondary vehicle. The driver of the vehicle stopped after hitting the victim and also tried to help. The driver is cooperating with law enforcement. Alcohol or controlled substances do not appear to be a factor.
The Minnesota State Patrol Recon team responded to the scene and is assisting in this ongoing investigation.
No further information will be released at this time.
