Pine City Council weighs changes to Westside Park

Changes are coming to Pine City's Westside Park after decisions made by the city council at April's meetings.

On April 24, the council voted to move forward with removing the skate park equipment and repaving the enclosure as a multi-use basketball court.

According to parks and public buildings manager Brock Bloomquist, the equipment is in rough condition, and he believes a multi-use court will be more beneficial for the park.

The city will contract with Premier Properties for the project, which will cost $14,000. The funds were designated for repavement of the enclosure in 2024.

On April 2, the council also voted to approve a request made by the Pine City Area Pickleball Association to begin planning for pickleball courts at Westside Park.

The proposed facility would feature six outdoor courts with a central pavilion and public seating.

It would require demolishing a basketball half-court and pavilion currently located on the proposed site.

Access to the courts would be provided from 13th Street Southwest and the adjacent walking path.
