Pine City Takes Down Hinckley-Finlayson at Home

The Dragons hosted the Jaguars on Tuesday night in a Great River Conference battle.


The first set went by in a flash all in Pine City's favor 25-7. The second set was vastly different from the first.


Hinckley-Finlayson came out firing on all cylinders. They quickly jumped out to a 9-2 lead before the Dragons took a timeout. The pause in action seemed to help Pine City as they were able to close the gap shrinking their deficit to 3. But that was all the closer they could get, as the Jags continued to work and slowly pull away. Eventually, the Jaguars were able to take the victory in set 2, 25-15.


With the match tied at one it was anyone's game. But the Dragons were able to force momentum back to their side of the court in the 3rd set. Though the set stayed close throughout, the Dragons were able to pull away and put themselves ahead 2-1.


The 4th set looked as if Pine City may run away with it, as they lead 13-6. But the Jags were quickly able to turn the tables and close the gap. They pulled within two of the Dragon lead and looked poised to make an impressive comeback. From that point on the teams traded points back and forth. with the dragons leading 21-20 either team was looking for a spark to give their team the edge needed to pull off the win. After a mistake by the Jags, Pine City was able to pull able to score the last few points and walked away victorious 3-1.


With the win Pine City moves to 7-1 on the season, 2-0 in both the conference and section. They'll have a tough road test on Thursday in Braham against the Bombers.


After the loss the Jaguars move to 1-3 on the season and in section play, and 0-2 in the conference. They'll host another conference foe, Mille Lacs, on Thursday.
