The Pine County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Chisago City man in the Tuesday shooting death of a Sandstone man. Deputies arrested John Quitter, 36, of Chisago City shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Quitter was booked into the Pine County Jail on probable cause 2nd degree murder. Charges are expected in the coming days.
Pine County Sheriff’s dispatch received a call from Essentia Hospital at approximately 6 a.m. on Sept. 6 reporting that a man, now identified as Quitter, had transported a shooting victim to the hospital’s emergency room facility and then left. Hospital staff provided a vehicle description and license plate number. The victim died a short time later.
Investigators located Quitter and determined that the shooting incident occurred on Lake Alma Rd. in Hinckley.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once a preliminary autopsy and family notifications are complete.
Additional information will be available in the criminal complaint. This is an active and ongoing investigation. The Pine County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mille Lacs Tribal Police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal of Apprehension.
