The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 80 Minnesota counties on Monday, May 12, due to extreme fire conditions, including Pine, Kanabec, Isanti, Mille Lacs, and Chisago.
According to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, a Red Flag Warning means fires can spread quickly and grow out of control under current weather conditions.
Residents of impacted counties should not burn when the warning is in effect, and the DNR will not issue open burning permits for large vegetative debris. Campfires are discouraged.
The Wisconsin DNR has also issued a Red Flag Warning in conjunction with the National Weather Service from noon to 9 p.m. on Monday.
Burnett County is among the impacted northern Wisconsin counties.
