Rush City Council approves resolution of intent for Rock Creek fire substation

The Rush City Council approved a resolution signaling its intent to enter a joint powers agreement with Rock Creek to create and implement a fire substation in the city at Monday's meeting.

Rock Creek contracted with the Rush City Fire Department for fire protection services starting in January of 2024.

At a Rock Creek city council meeting on March 6, council member Dan Saumer said establishing a substation was a goal within the next two years.

"We're looking at a substation in the future," Saumer said. "It won't happen immediately, we have to finish our current shop, and there are a few steps to get done before we get to that point. But hopefully in the next two years or less, we will have a substation here."

At that meeting, Saumer also said a substation would benefit fire protection services in Rock Creek.

"Hopefully it will enhance fire protection and response to residents in the area, and I hope that it increases the ISO rating, at least for the immediate area," he said.

The joint powers agreement — subject to mutually agreeable negotiations — would include the operation, facilities, and funding for the substation.

Rush City administrator Amy Mell said the resolution passed unanimously, with Rush City council member Dan Meyer absent from Monday's meeting.
