Sandstone shares community engagement plan for school redevelopment project

Sandstone recently shared a community engagement plan for the city’s effort to redevelop the historic Sandstone School into housing.

According to the plan, the original three-story structure and 1962 two-story addition are proposed to be redeveloped into 31 units of workforce housing.

The 1936 auditorium is proposed to be renovated for use by the Sandstone History and Art Center. The non-historic additions are slated to be demolished.

The city’s action plan states that demolition for those additions is anticipated to take place early in 2024.

Roof repair and replacement work is anticipated after those demolition projects are finished.

Hazardous material abatement in the other structures is likely to take place from spring to fall of this year.
