The Rush City girls basketball team hosted North Lakes Academy in their regular season finale last night.
The game got off to a less than ideal start for both sides. The Tigers scored first from the free throw line but only grabbed one point. Near the halfway mark in the 1st half the Huskies would grab one point themselves. The game was tied at 1 over 10 minutes into the half. Then Rush City started to get things rolling and Alexis Ertz was a big reason why. She would score 8 points in the 1st half and help give her team a 13-6 lead at half. The Tigers seemed to find the groove they needed and it showed as the 2nd half began.
The defenses in the 1st half were the story but it was a scoring frenzy in the 2nd. The Tigers came out firing on all cylinders. In the first 4 minutes Ertz added 9 more points of her own. With the surge from Ertz the team fed off of that and started to pull away. Isabella Folkema came off the bench and score 9 points as well. Soon they had put the game out of reach. Yes, the Tigers offense was impressive but the defense was just as good. While the offense score 41 points in the 2nd half, the defense only allowed the Huskies 19 points. Rush City was able to end the regular season on a high note with a 54-25 win on senior night.
The Tigers will finish one game below .500 at 11-12. They are currently the #13 seed and would play against Holdingford next Thursday in the 1st round of the playoffs.
